About Durrell Nielsen

W. DURRELL NIELSEN
Attorney at Law

W. Durrell Nielsen graduated from the University of Arizona in 1967, receiving a Bachelors of Science degree in Business Administration with an accounting major. He was also awarded his Juris Doctor degree from the University of Arizona in 1970, where he was a staff member of the Arizona Law Review. After graduation from law school, Mr. Nielsen was employed by the Office of Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service, as a staff attorney. During the more than four years with the Chief Counsel’s Office, he represented the Internal Revenue Service in a variety of tax matters including civil matters in the United States Tax Court, collection matters in the United States Bankruptcy Court and in state courts, and reviewing and recommending criminal prosecutions to the United States Department of Justice. Mr. Nielsen has been in private practice of law since 1974.

In his private practice of law, Mr. Nielsen has focused on estate planning, probate, trust administration, taxation, and corporate and business matters. He has presented many public and private seminars on these subjects. In addition to his busy law practice, Mr. Nielsen is very active in church and educational organizations, and has served on the Planned Giving Committee of Primary Childrens Hospital, Salt Lake City, Utah. He and his wife, Janelle, are parents of three sons, two daughters, and six grandchildren.

Mr. Nielsen is admitted to practice before all the courts in the states of Arizona and Utah, the Federal courts in Arizona and Utah, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit and the Tenth Circuit, the United States Tax Court, and the Supreme Court of the United States of America. He is a member of the State Bar of Arizona and the Utah State Bar.
